Metadata and Social Share

This section explains how to manage the metadata and social share items on a page, and are important tools available for you to use for SEO and outreach.

How to Update Page SEO Metadata

Metadata is commonly called "data about data" and is a powerful tool when implementing search engine optimizations. Metadata highlights and summarizes the content of your pages and when entered correctly can ensure higher rankings in external search engines.

To update the metadata of a page:

  1. Open the Pages application
  2. Select the page in the content tree
  3. Click on the Properties tab
  4. Select Metadata
  5. Set the following properties:
    1. Page title field: The page title is displayed to users in the header of their browser (or tab) when the page is viewed. Many search engines use this title for the page in their search result lists. The CMS adds the content of this field into the <title> element in the HEAD section of the page's output.
    2. Page description: A brief description of the page and its purpose. The description can be used for SEO purposes and when performing searches on the website. The CMS adds the content of the property as a description meta element in the HEAD section of the page's output. Some search engines index this tag.
    3. Page keywords: Allows you to add meta keywords to the page. The CMS may use this type of metadata if your visitors search the site (e.g., the built-in Smart search). To add multiple keywords, separate them with commas.
  6. Click Save
  7. Click Publish

NOTES:

  • Rise suggests to always fill out the following metadata fields:
    • Page Title
    • Page Description
  • If you click on the Inherit checkbox the page will inherit its parent node metadata.
