Thousands of dairy producers will visit the dairy checkoff booth at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., Sept. 28 – Oct. 2, to learn about checkoff efforts to increase consumption of and demand for U.S. dairy products. Last year, booth visitors learned about partnerships with leading food and beverage companies, initiatives to reach kids in schools, efforts with manufacturers to develop innovative dairy products, and other demand-building programsSee pictures from the 2009 World Dairy Expo below.

New York dairy producer and United Dairy Industry Association (UDIA) member Carroll Wade spoke with dairy producers about how the dairy checkoff partners with leading food and beverage companies to drive immediate- and long-term sales. Recent and current partners include: McDonald’s®, BURGER KING®, Wendy’s®, Pizza Hut®, Starbucks® Coffee Company, Yoplait®, General Mills, and others.

Paula Meabon, Pennsylvania dairy producer and National Dairy Promotion and Research Vice Chair, spoke with farm broadcasters and producers about a nutrition strategy being brought to life through the Child Nutrition and Fitness Initiative (CNFI). The dairy checkoff is working with America’s youth to improve their own health through more physical activity and good nutrition – including dairy and industry leaders to protect dairy’s place in schools and increase access to dairy in schools.

Dairy producers signed up to learn more about how to communicate the positive story of dairy through social media applications, such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs. Earlier this year, the dairy checkoff created the myDairy social media program to help producers communicate their dairy experiences with consumers.
